Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel My XLSX file will not open in excel or numbers. When I try to open it it says 'the file might have been damaged or modified from its original format'. How do I open it?
Wait a few moments: If you see a “Temporary Error (502)” message when you try to open files in Drive, it means that your documents are temporarily unavailable. I fixed my issue by clearing all cookies (not the history) on both Safari and Chrome.
I had it saved on my desktop, no where else. I accidentally tried to open it with 'Archive Utility' (when I right clicked on the file) and it created another alias, but in a.Zip format. This file is HUGELY important.how do I get it back & be able to open it [email protected] 22/3/2010, 21:40 น.
Go to the version that the Archive utility produced, and changed the '.zip' extension to '.xlsx'. Excel may then open it. No guarantees. The original.XLSX file is a zip file.
If you open it in Finder, it adds the Finder resource fork (known in the trade as 'Finder droppings: a bit like mouse turds.). After that, Excel can't open it because the file has indeed been damaged. You can put it back together on a PC, or you can use Terminal to invoke Zip from the command line to re-pack the file without adding Finder Turds:-) Or if you send the file to XinXin or myself we'll try to recover it for you.
XinXin will have a better chance than I: he can use internal tools I do not have.
